Winter Chills, Frosty Thrills

January 15, 2016 - Preschool, Preschool Weekly

Winter weather chills didn’t stop Nature Preschool from having a blast this past week! We continued our hunt for ice, frost and other signs of winter! In the classrooms we painted with ice and explored the “frozen stream” we created in our sensory bins! The Nature Preschoolers love to climb and balance on logs. In the bare woods we spotted a fallen tree that we crossed creating a shortcut from one trail to another! We had a very special visitor from Mr. Danny! He used his magic to help the children understand what it feels like to be overwhelmed, and how to deal with our feelings in those stimulated moments.

Some of our favorite class experiences this past week:
-The Flying Squirrels loved building fairy houses from sticks, stones and other natural materials!
-The Bears used scissors to collect interesting discoveries in the meadow!
-The Coyotes practiced yoga poses while reading a winter story!
-The Foxes enjoyed painting ice and learning the difference between more and less.
-The Rabbits finished their chapter book, “The Story Snail” that they started in November. They read it outside!
-The Chipmunks were excited about all things cold! They painted with ice, explored snow dough and more!

Next week we will be exploring winter books and practicing our storytelling skills! Until then keep your eyes to the skies and look out for snow!
