Each spring, the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay hosts Project Clean Stream, an initiative for residents of the Chesapeake Bay watershed to get out in their neighborhoods, parks, or workplaces to pick up trash!
This Friday, employees from WPM Real Estate Management kicked off Irvine’s Project Clean Stream weekend by cleaning up the retention pond in their office park.
Before the clean-up, Katie Roof, an Irvine Naturalist, gave an animal presentation to WPM employees. Katie explained how different native species, like the Diamondback Terrapin and Eastern Screech Owl, are impacted by pollution.
Then, 8 WPM volunteers spent two hours cleaning around the property, which encompasses several different types of wildlife habitat, including a forested area and a pond. The volunteers picked up 5 bags of recycling and 6 bags of trash, containing an estimated 275 cigarette butts and 240 bottles and cans!
