November’s Volunteers of the Month are our fantastic Garden Keepers, Robin and Will Tress! Robin and Will were introduced to Garden Keepers after attending a program at Irvine about invasive plants. The two thought that they could put their extensive knowledge of Maryland native plants to good use through volunteering!
Since they first started volunteering in May of 2014, Will and Robin have spent more than 350 hours working in Irvine’s gardens. They can be found each Tuesday morning not only weeding and mulching, but also teaching fellow Irvine volunteers plant identification, invasive removal methods, and best management techniques. Recently, the pair discovered some wavy basketgrass (a super invasive plant from southeast Asia) encroaching into the Woodland Gardens. Without their diligence and hard work in removing it, we may have lost some of the incredible biodiversity in this protected area.
A big congratulations to Will and Robin, and thank you both for all that you do!
