Troop 1640 at Irvine!

May 24, 2016 - Irvine Volunteers

Last week, 5 Girl Scouts from Troop 1640 completed their Bronze Award at Irvine. The scouts, along with Butterfly House Intern Dana Rasnake, constructed and painted trail markers for a butterfly transect citizen science project.

The scouts assembled the trail markers by nailing wooden butterflies to posts. These will identify portions of the trail where visitors and volunteers can participate in butterfly surveys on Irvine’s property! Next, Dana and the scouts went on a hike to visit the spots in the meadow where the trail markers will be installed. We even spotted some butterflies while we were out!

Finally, the stakes needed to be painted (in natural colors, of course) with durable outdoor paint in order to have longevity outdoors. Congratulations to Troop 1640, and thanks again for all your help!
