This May, Molly, Laura, and TJ from Westminster Target visited Irvine for an afternoon of volunteering. The three worked on mulching a hillside next to our building. The area was a narrow strip on a steep slope – and it was incredibly tricky to mow! In addition, the space wasn’t serving much of a purpose, as it had no benefits for wildlife and didn’t look particularly attractive. Target to the rescue! The group mulched the entire area to prepare it for native plantings. Irvine Garden Keepers relocated various pollinator friendly plants from high-traffic areas to the new garden plot. Now we have a space that is both beautified and will provide valuable food sources for our pollinators.
