As part of the Growing Green Leaders (GGL) program, Irvine Nature Center is currently in a partnership with John Ruhrah Elementary/Middle School to increase environmental literacy and awareness. John Ruhrah Elementary/Middle School was recently selected by the Nature Conservancy, in collaboration with City Blossoms, as the winner of 1 of 12 Nature Works Everywhere garden grants given to Baltimore-area schools for the 2013-2014 school year. The grant is designed to promote environmental education by providing schools with the funding and instruction to build school gardens and implement interactive, curriculum-based lessons about the environment. I helped at the garden build, along with numerous students, teachers, and parents. It was a cold, but fun and successful afternoon! The students are excited to learn more about their garden and the next steps they’ll take. Congratulations to the students and staff of John Ruhrah for their dedication in educating the students about the environment and making their school more green! See the full article here.
