This year, Irvine is honored to name not one, but two, fantastic recipients of the Jeanne Baetjer Volunteer of the Year award – Sue and Tim Davis! The Davises first started volunteering with Irvine in 2012 through our bluebird nest box program. They now monitor over 60 boxes every Friday from April through August, identifying which species are occupying each box and documenting their growth from egg to fledgling. Tim then enters their observations to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Nestwatch database. During the fall and winter, the two monitor Irvine’s wildlife blinds through Project Feederwatch, another Cornell initiative. This past summer, Sue and Tim acted as docents in our butterfly house, sharing their knowledge and love of citizen science with others. But that’s not all – Sue and Tim can also be found assisting with development mailings, special events, and anything else we might need! The two are incredibly important volunteers and friends to Irvine – congratulations, and thank you both so much for all that you do!
