September’s Volunteer of the Month is the fantastic Youth Program Leader Monae Kerney! Monae, a student at Towson High School, spent 4 weeks this summer assisting counselors with Buds, Sprouts, and Discovery camps. According to staff, Monae arrived each day with “a positive attitude and limitless enthusiasm.”
Gracie Harvey, Lead Counselor, said: “Monae lead activities and frequently volunteered to teach the kids games or songs. She even overcame her fear of many of the animals we have at Irvine by touching the snake and the cockroach! Her growth was amazing to watch and I’m honored to be able to nominate her for Volunteer of the Month, she really deserves this recognition!!”
Monae arrived early at camp each day to work on snack and craft prep, but most notable was her relationship with campers, staff, and her fellow Youth Program Leaders. Gracie said: “Her attitude and work ethic carried over to the other YPLs working with her as well; they followed her lead in interacting with the kids and setting up activities.”
Monae was an amazing role model for our campers, and according to Lead Counselor Lisa Clossin, “her smile and laughter lit up camp this summer.” Thank you Monae, and congratulations!!
