Here’s what’s new in the volunteer department:
- Last month we wrapped up a successful season of school programs led by Volunteer Naturalists, Interns, and Staff. In June, we jumped right on in to Summer Nature Camp! 25 fantastic Youth Program Leaders have helped our first few weeks of camp go by smoothly! This group of teens and young adults volunteer at least 4 weeks of their summer to help make sure that campers are safe, having fun, and learning in nature!
- Skyla Steele, Irvine’s Chesapeake Conservation Corps Intern, is completing the final touches on her vermicompost bin project (more details to come upon completion!).
- So far, volunteers have completed 6855.5 total hours in 2015! Two superstar volunteers, Valerie Lannen, Naturalist Intern, and Olav Nyseter, 2014 Volunteer of the Year and handyman extraordinaire, have both completed almost 200 hours this year! Congratulations to you both, and thanks for all that you do!
- Get these dates on your calendar now! Fall Volunteer Naturalist training is on September 8th, 10th, 15th, and 17th, 9:30-12:30. This 4-session course will teach you how to lead educational trips for school groups. We’ll cover field trip themes, natural history, trail activities and teaching techniques. No experience necessary – just bring enthusiasm for working with kids!
