Project Clean Stream is an annual regional stream clean up engaging more than 1,000 Marylanders in cleaning up their watersheds. Project Clean Stream was started by Irvine Nature Center in the mid-1970s (then known as the Jones Falls Watershed Cleanup). The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay has since taken over the event, with Irvine remaining on as an active partner.
This Saturday, Chesapeake Conservation Corps volunteers, Jemicy School students, Irvine’s Young Naturalists, and local community members all pitched in to clean up Irvine. The volunteers split into two groups- one to patrol Irvine’s trails and high-use areas, and another to cover the portion of Garrison Forest Road that Irvine sponsors through Adopt-a-Road.
The group cleaning up inside of Irvine’s property actually had a difficult time finding trash! This says great things about the stewardship of our members and visitors. For the Adopt-a-Road volunteer group, it was a different story. They collected 6 full bags of recyclables and almost 200 cigarette butts!
