Irvine Nature Center's Reforestation Project Launches & Helps Us All Breathe Easier Did you know the average American emits more than 27 tons of carbon dioxide a year? Unfortunately, this collection of greenhouse gases is like a ticking time bomb in need of serious planning to deactivate. There are some easy steps you can take to offset your carbon footprint like recycling materials, using energy star appliances, composting, or buying organic foods. You can also make a major impact by purchasing and planting a tree, and in turn leave a legacy for generations. Irvine Nature Center is participating in the reforestation efforts in Maryland, starting with our own land. It is our goal to plant more than 7,000 trees on our grounds. By helping us plant trees, you are helping sequester nearly 155 tons of carbon emissions per acre. Now that's a huge impact on a local level - right in your own backyard! Your contribution to our Plant a Tree Leave a Legacy campaign will help our reforestation efforts, which will help capture pollution and dust from the air, rebuild natural habitats for animals, and head off global warming by "sequestering" carbon dioxide. The timing of this effort falls in line with the 40th Annual Earth Day Celebration. We are excited for the special day to celebrate such a pinnacle year, and we hope you can join us to celebrate the Planet. Starting today, you can purchase a tree through our Plant a Tree, Leave a Legacy Campaign. You will receive a planting certificate and information on volunteering to physically plant the tree(s). You can inspire family, friends, and neighbors. The tree is a great gift in honor of someone living or passed.
